- Welcome to ORCHIS (Org Chart Imaging Software)!
- Version 1.2
-
- ORCHIS is a flexible and powerful tool for creating organizational charts
- on PC compatible computers running under DOS. Not only organizations of
- people, but any tree-like hierarchy can be represented by such a chart:
- menu structures, decision trees, sentence parsings, and so forth.
-
- ORCHIS employs an intuitive graphical user interface throughout. You
- specify text and properties for each chart element using simple data entry
- forms. You create links graphically using a WYSIWYG chart display. The
- layout of the chart is done automatically by ORCHIS. When you add to the
- chart, or change the text, properties, or linkages, ORCHIS will instantly
- redraw the chart to your new specifications.
-
-
- GETTING STARTED
-
- It takes just three simple steps to get ORCHIS up and running:
-
- Step 1: Make a directory for ORCHIS on your hard disk and copy all
- of the ORCHIS files into that directory. (You can also install ORCHIS on a
- floppy disk.)
-
- Step 2: Run the INSTALL utility and answer the questions that it
- asks. This will set up ORCHIS to run properly with your hardware
- configuration.
-
- Step 3: Run ORCHIS.
-
-
- ON-LINE HELP
-
- When you are using ORCHIS, you can access the documentation at any time
- through the context-sensitive help facility. To access the help system,
- press the F1 key, and ORCHIS will take you directly to the section of the
- manual relevant to your current operation. When there are cross references
- in the manual, you can click with the mouse or use the GOTO command to
- view the referenced section. For complete information on using the help
- facility, press F1 to activate Help and then press F1 a second time.
-
-
- DOCUMENTATION
-
- The complete documentation for ORCHIS is contained in the files having
- the extension TXT. CONTENTS.TXT is the table of contents; CHAPT1.TXT
- contains chapter one of the manual, and so forth. These are ASCII files
- and you can use the DOS COPY command to make a printed version; for
- example, to print chapter one type:
-
- COPY CHAPT1.TXT PRN
-
- It is not necessary to print all of the manual, as you can view it while
- you are using ORCHIS (see above), but we recommend reading through chapter
- one, which is especially useful when you are using ORCHIS for the first
- time; it contains a thorough overview of ORCHIS, and how to use it.
-
- The remainder of the manual is organized as follows. Chapters 2 to 9
- describe the menu button commands, property sheets, and data entry forms.
- Chapter 10 covers the function keys and other special purpose keys.
- Chapter 11 explains on-line help. If you have any questions about the
- INSTALL utility, see the final chapter, CHAPT12.TXT.
-
-

- INTERNATIONAL ORDERS
-
- Because of prohibitive processing costs, we ask that international orders
- not pay by check (except from a US bank in US dollars) if at all possible.
- We suggest:
-
- Credit card payment
- American Express money order (in US dollars) or
- International postal money order (in US dollars).

- Cash payment in your local currency using the current exchange rate is
- also acceptable. Use rounding in the conversion; do not send coins.

-
- ENHANCING CHARTS WITH PEP
-
- Using the PDL export capability in ORCHIS, you can move org chart images
- into Trionum's PEP: Picture Editing Package. PEP is an innovative drawing
- and layout program designed for the non-artist who needs to produce high
- quality drawings of any sort. You can use PEP to annotate org chart
- images, add decorative borders and ornaments, and incorporate other
- stylistic variations, such as dashed lines, and bold or italic text, not
- directly supported by ORCHIS.
-
- PEP's many features include: multiple windows, arbitrary zoom, WYSIWYG
- display, background printing, infinite un-delete, scalable fonts, rulers,
- snapping, a powerful collection of menu driven commands, and complete
- on-line documentation.
-
- PEP is distributed as shareware, and an evaluation copy is included when
- you register ORCHIS.
